Ogilvy & Mather SA names Lauren Woolf as Chief Marketing & Talent Officer

A uniquely created position, to implement and drive the agency’s talent and culture strategy as well its marketing and communications initiatives

JOHANNESBURG, March 10, 2014 — Ogilvy & Mather South Africa (O&M SA) have announced that Lauren Woolf, Group Marketing Director, has been appointed to the newly created position of Chief Marketing & Talent Officer of Ogilvy & Mather South Africa, effective March 2014. She will be based in Johannesburg and report to O&M SA’s CEO, Abey Mokgwatsane.

In her new role, Woolf will develop and implement the agency’s talent and innovation culture strategy while continuing to oversee the group’s marketing and corporate communication initiatives.

In making the announcement, Mokgwatsane stated: “In this newly created role, Lauren will oversee the crucial areas of talent and culture as well as marketing and communication. These two areas of business are inextricably linked and having Lauren guide them both and make the connections between how our brand lives inside and outside, is a fresh and dynamic approach.”

Commenting on the position, Woolf said, “I am excited by the challenge of taking on this role. A thirteen-year O&M veteran, Woolf has held positions in both the Cape Town and Johannesburg offices, having started in Cape Town in 1995. After a five-year stint in Switzerland, from 2000 to 2005, where Woolf worked as a Brand Manager for British American Tobacco prior to starting her own communications business — Antipod, she re-joined the business at Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg in 2005. She became Client Service Director in 2006 and was subsequently appointed to its board of directors. In 2008, Woolf left the position for a more flexible role in the agency which included various new business pitches and group assignments.

In 2011, Woolf took on the position of Group Marketing Director with the key responsibilities of developing and managing the agency’s amplification and reputation strategy, with a focus on building the agency’s thought leadership profile and specifically focussing on O&M SA’s own digital and social eco-system. Today, this eco-system is a robust and relevant communication and conversation platform for employees and the creative communications industry at large. She successfully developed the Ogilvy Graduate Programme (OGP) — an industry leading programme aimed at attracting the best young talent into the agency — as well as launched several O&M disciplines into the local market, including OgilvyOne Worldwide, Social@Ogilvy and Strike Media.

Woolf was appointed to the Executive Committee in 2012 and is currently completing the latter half of her Executive MBA at the Berlin School of Creative Leadership. The international programme, at Steinbeis University in Germany, is dedicated to quality executive education and research into creative leadership.
