JOHANNESBURG, September 17, 2013 – Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg (O&M JHB) strategic planning director Neo Makhele has been appointed to the board of the Association for Communication and Advertising South Africa (ACASA).
Committed to self-regulation, ACASA defends the highest standards of ethical practice in the South African advertising industry and also hosts the annual APEX awards, an important highlight on the communications calendar.
Having played a leading role in marketing strategy at O&M JHB for 8 years and been at the helm of the Planning department for over five years, she is well prepared for the responsibilities ahead.
Makhele says she enjoys observing and identifying the underlying cultures, ideas and behaviours that frame society. “I am an idealist, so I believe in the pursuit of greatness and am alert to the folly of pride.”
It is this attitude and passion, and a deep commitment to scaling Ogilvy’s “Twin Peaks” of both creativity and effectiveness that makes Makhele a perfect fit for the ACASA board. “I am excited and proud of this new chapter in my life and look forward to adding value to the industry through the ACASA board,” she says.
Makhele has a Bachelor of Science degree in Education, a post graduate degree in Business Management (UNISA) and a post graduate qualification in advertising with majors in strategy and media. She started her advertising career in 1997 as a junior planner at what was then Ogilvy & Mather Rightford Searle-Tripp & Makin JHB, and after a successful stint in publishing, returned to Ogilvy where in March 2007, she was appointed to Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg board and later that year was promoted to Strategic Planning Director.
With her appointment to the ACASA board, Makhele’s journey in the advertising industry is far from over.
