Nunu Ntshingila-Njeke Honoured With FM AdFocus Lifetime Achievement Award

South African advertising icon and Ogilvy & Mather South Africa (O&M SA) Chairman Nunu Ntshingila-Njeke sealed her status as advertising’s first lady when she earned her second Lifetime Achievement Award this year at the AdFocus Awards, held in Johannesburg.

The announcement, which follows Ntshingila-Njeke’s Lifetime Achievement Award accolade at the AdReview Awards in May, paid tribute to the businesswoman’s phenomenal contribution to the industry.

In the 2012 Financial Mail Annual publication, AdFocus editor David Furlonger praised Ntshingila-Njeke’s unassuming but significant effect on communications in South Africa.
“Her credentials as a businesswoman and leader are impeccable. On her watch, Ogilvy & Mather SA continued its growth as the country’s most diversified and arguably the biggest communications company.”

In her acceptance speech, Ntshingila-Njeke credited all those who call Ogilvy home. “This award belongs to you. I am humbled to be recognised in such a way at this point of my life.”

Widely regarded as a driving force in the industry who continues to champion the power of communication and creativity, Ntshingila-Njeke, in her tenure as O&M SA CEO, galvanised the agency’s evolution into a diversified communications group that continues to deliver integrated, effective and award-winning work for some of South Africa’s biggest and most recognised brands.

In early 2011, she took her place alongside the world’s top advertising and marketing professionals when she was invited to join the Ogilvy Worldwide Board as its only representative from Africa .

Reinforcing Ntshingila-Njeke’s reference at the awards ceremony to the importance of meaningful client partnerships as the cornerstone of success, this year’s AdFocus Partnership of the Year Award went to Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town and Carling Black Label (CBL).

This reinforces the belief that the best work arises from exceptional relationships. The agency has held the CBL account for over 25 years. The “Be The Coach” campaign, which won a Loeries Grand Prix this year, has been the most awarded integrated campaign globally over the past 12 months.

O&M Cape Town also secured a finalist position in the Advertising Agency of the Year category.

As a perceived ‘traditional’ agency, O&M SA’s defiance of convention by securing a finalist position in the Digital Agency of the Year category was highlighted as noteworthy by Furlonger and indicative of the unprecedented changes in the industry.

“Our ethos has always been about innovating for change. We’re creating solutions that provide an answer to the changing needs of our clients and to the changing context of the consumer. The future is undeniably digital,” says O&M SA CEO Abey Mokgwatsane.

Ogilvy Africa entrenched its position as the leading group on the continent by walking away with the African Agency Network of the Year Award – its fourth consecutive win.
