Carol Gallarelli and Nicky Schermer take on new roles at Ogilvy & Mather

JOHANNESBURG, September 19, 2016 – Ogilvy & Mather (O&M) South Africa today announced that Carol Gallarelli and Nicky Schermer will take up new senior responsibilities in the agency.

Gallarelli, who assumes the role as Group Marketing Director, has overseen Ogilvy Public Relations (OPR) Cape Town for the past four years – a period in which staff and revenue trebled, and transformed the business into a fully-fledged PR agency. Prior to joining Ogilvy PR she was an O&M Cape Town Business Director on blue chip accounts BP, Carling Black Label, Castle Lite, Castrol and Revlon. In her new role, she will report to CEO of O&M SA, Abey Mokgwatsane and remain based in Cape Town.

“Our brand is one of our most fundamental assets – it attracts the very best talent, the clients we want to partner with, and it also gives us something extraordinary to aspire to in everything we do,” says Mokgwatsane. “Carol has a passion and natural affinity for our brand and I’m confident she’ll continue to enable its effective amplification both internally and externally.”

To replace Gallarelli, Schermer will take over the reigns as MD of Ogilvy PR Cape Town in October and report to Joanna Oosthuizen, National MD of Ogilvy PR South Africa. Schermer joined O&M in February 2015 as a business consultant, before becoming acting-MD of OgilvyOne and then most recently MD of the agency’s mobile marketing business, Strike Media.

Schermer began her career in PR at Haygarth in London, working on Chivas Regal and Sennheiser, and has worked on Nokia and Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment.

Previously at The Jupiter Drawing Room, she ran the Windhoek Beer account, project-managed digital integration for the agency and set up their Namibian arm, Weathermen & Co.

Oosthuizen says, “I am very excited to welcome Nicky to the OPR business and I look forward to working with her in taking our business to the next level.”

National MD of the Digital Portfolio, Ben Evans, will temporarily absorb Schermer’s responsibilities in Strike Media until a replacement is found.
