Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg brings home the group’s first Grand Prix at Cannes 2014

JOHANNESBURG, June 25, 2014 – Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg soared high at this year’s Cannes Lions Festival of Creativity, being awarded the

first Cannes Lions Grand Prix for Radio in the storied history of Ogilvy & Mather worldwide for its tongue-in-cheek ‘Give Me Strength’ campaign for Lucozade.

The campaign, which also won a Gold Lion in the same category, involved a series of radio commercials, ‘Teleconference’, ‘Kids Party’, and ‘Enrique Concert’ which amusingly demonstrates the energising effect of Lucozade in “give me strength” moments like negotiating the battlefield of a child’s birthday party or the intense frustrations of international conference calls.

Co-Executive Creative Director of Ogilvy & Mather Johannesburg, Mariana O’ Kelly, praises the Lucozade client for their “belief in the agency” and says, “an enormous amount of tenacity and passion from all sides went into making this campaign fly as high as it did”.

The Johannesburg office also brought home three Bronze Lions for Topsy, DStv and Philips, as well as Silver Lions for Bose and Kimberly-Clark. Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town also garnered three Bronze Lions for Volkswagen South Africa.

Chief Creative Officer of O&M South Africa, Chris Gotz, was thrilled by the collection of awards the local group brought home; “Each year the competition at Cannes becomes tougher. For us the wins are testament to the amount of trust in our client relationships, the creativity in our ranks and the sheer bloody hard work put in to craft the work.”

Ogilvy & Mather was also named global Network of the Year on Saturday night, retaining this title for the third consecutive year.
