Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town dominates at 2013 Loeries

Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town (O&M CT) enjoyed another stand-out night at the 2013 Loeries Awards in Cape Town, adding a further two gold, six bronze and three silver awards to their list of wins over the weekend.

“It’s a perfect storm,” says Executive Creative Director, O&M CT Chris Gotz. “We have wonderful, talented people, and we are lucky to have brave and ambitious clients, clients who have been with us, in some cases, for decades. As Geoffrey Hantson, one of the international Loeries judges, said, the agency just comes up with the ideas, puts them on a piece of paper and shows the client. The client is the one who takes the risk, pushes the button and makes it happen. We’re lucky to have them. This weekend was theirs as much as ours.”

Gotz adds that it’s winning awards across so many categories that is indicative of the depth of the agency’s creative talent.  Notably, the VW StreetQuest campaign won awards across a number of categories including digital interactive and social media, live events, digital craft best use of technology, digital craft interface and navigation, digital mixed-media campaign, integrated campaign and the coveted digital and interactive grand prix.

Carrin Merkel, Marketing Communications Manager of Volkswagen South Africa, stated: “To be the most awarded client at Loeries would be a huge honour for any brand, but for Volkswagen it has a special significance. Our journey with Ogilvy has lasted over 30 years. It’s a relationship built by trust and understanding and most of all, an incredible and enduring body of work. We are beyond proud.”

Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town and Johannesburg collectively garnered one grand prix, four gold, nine silver and fourteen bronze awards across a range of long-standing clients such as Volkswagen of South Africa, Audi of South Africa, South African Breweries, DSTV and KFC. Other than the digital categories, awards included radio, TV, live events, print media, PR and creative effectiveness demonstrating the agency’s truly integrated offering.

O&M SA CEO Abey Mokgwatsane says the agency’s Twin Peaks philosophy of striving for excellence in creativity and effectiveness underpins all work it produces. “The awards we won tonight – combined with our continued leadership at the Apex Awards – is evidence that we are being true to what we believe.”
